Happy Womens Day - Financial Planning

Happy Women's day... while its a day to celebrate, livemint has come up with some good articles on financial planning for women.

While financial planning should not be gender specific, many women still don't take it seriously enough.
I am just sharing those links and I hope it helps some of my readers.

News on USL and UB

The news is that Vijay Mallaya has resigned from USL (in exchange of some amount of money - USD 75 million in 5 years !!!)

Now it paves way for Diageo to take complete control and move forward with its plans.

USL opened up today (nearly 4%)

Today I heard on radio about beer consumption being highest in AP, TN, Karnataka and Kerala (they being the top 4).

I read a bit and came across this article.
http://www.newindianexpress.com/states/telangana/Consumption-of-Beer-Highest-in-Telangana-Andhra/2015/06/04/article2847997.ece

This is 2015 based and am sure the figure would have increased by today (2016)

In India with more population growing and more teenagers opting for beer etc. the consumption should grow. (I know this is bad habit but its happening - sadly)

Are you looking at USL and UB based on above news?

There are also rumors of Heineken increasing its stake in UB. Does that generate interest for you?

EPFO Planning one time bonus?

The Employees' Provident Fund Organization is considering doling out a Rs 750 crore bonus to its subscribers for 2015-16 instead of raising the interest rate.

Why not instead increase the interest rate?
Because, then people will put more in PF and not in the other small saving schemes.

So look forward to some increase in your PF amount :-)

Warren Buffet buying oil stocks -- hint?

Warren Buffet is buying oil stocks as crude hits 12 year low.
Do note that Warren Buffet generally doesn't buy with a small duration in mind. Which means, in the long term he is expecting something positive from crude.

Will RIL be in your radar for the long term when crude prices rebound? Or do you have any other stock in your mind?

Monday morning (18th Jan) should we expect another big crash in market?

This is how the US markets ended

Porinju's latest pick

I have never kept it a secret that I am an avid follower of Porinju Veliyath.

As per NSE bulk deals, Porinju bought Indiabulls wholesale shares in the name of his son.

Lets see if Porinju sir's new pick will also be a multi bagger (like his previous picks)

Thoughts?

PPF, NSC rates to be reduced

As per news, it seems the rates of PPF and NSC are set to be reduced.

Refer below links

http://economictimes.indiatimes.com/wealth/news/ppf-nsc-rates-to-be-cut-bank-fds-may-fetch-lower-interest/articleshow/50572440.cms

The 10 year NSC was also planned to be discontinued.

Does this force people to go to equity?

I know many people who use PPF for tax saving as well as part of their debt portfolio (me included).

This will affect the overall corpus that people are expecting on maturity.
